A MESSAGE FROM NIDANA KINESIOLOGY ACADEMY FOUNDERS

If you've explored our About Us page, you'll know that 20 years ago we - Terese and Sarah, Founders and accredited facilitators of The Nidana Collective Kinesiology Academy (TNCKA) - were where you are now: each deciding whether becoming a Kinesiologist was our next career move.

Now with over 40 years Kinesiology clinical experience between us, we are excited for the chance to welcome you to this rewarding modality and fulfilling career path.

The Nidana Collective Kinesiology Academy is our teaching arm, with campuses in Sydney's Northern Beaches, Byron Hinterland and Brisbane. TNC Kinesiology Academy is accredited by the International College of Professional Kinesiology Practice (ICPKP) to teach, assess and qualify students with the ICPKP Certificate. We have developed the Certificate course to be taught as a part time hybrid study course - meaning split between online and face-to-face.

We understand everyone has busy lives, so we embrace this by designing our courses to be both manageable in the delivery, and easy to integrate with your other commitments. For some of you, being able to transition out of an existing career/job, can’t happen fast enough (we’ve been there) so the certificate qualification is devised for completion within a year.

A Year? Really? Yes, really.

Our Sydney class 2024 has started, and Byron Hinterland and Brisbane classes begin in April - all groups will be qualified with their ICPKP CERTIFICATE and ready to start a new, fulfilling, flexible and financially rewarding career as a Kinesiologist.……oh, and did we mention fun, inspiring and life changing?

And there's more.... your journey with the Academy doesn’t have to end there. You will find you’re part of a wonderful community of like-minded people, all enjoying growth and learning, so if you choose, you can stay with us once you’ve started practicing (and earning) to gain your ICPKP DIPLOMA - an advanced qualification adding further depth to both your knowledge and experience.

Big decision. Big questions.

Choosing to study to become a Kinesiologist can be a major life decision. Whether it is a total career change, or a desire to add a complementary qualification to your existing career in another modality of complementary medicine or natural therapies.

Returning to study can have its challenges, and often our students are juggling their existing career, family commitments and more - so we know there are a number of key questions and considerations. We also whole-heartedly know that it can be achieved - and for most, it is definitely worth it.

The aim of this guide is to start to answer those questions, and perhaps clarify some points you may not have considered but which we feel are important. Please start by exploring the FAQs below. Here we aim to cover the questions we are most commonly asked about the course, the study commitment and a career in Kinesiology. Followed by more detailed Course Resources & Info including the course outline and schedule. Use the Quick Links below and Menu buttons at the top of each section to easily navigate around the page.

One thing you will learn about us is that we have a lot of passion and pride in what we do and what we teach. We believe it is a true privilege to do what we do, so with that in mind, we take the time to ‘interview’ (in the most relaxed meaning of the word) our students to ensure we are the ideal fit for their kinesiology journey. We value the ‘collective’ and integration of our classes and what each student brings.

Once you have decided we just might be the people for you for this exciting stage of your life, we suggest you email or call us. We truly value a conversation, so please contact info@thenidanacollective.com or reach out direct to us using the details below - time is tight for 2024 so we look forward to hearing from you.

OVERVIEW OF A CAREER IN KINESIOLOGY

WHAT IS KINESIOLOGY?

Kinesiology is a powerful holistic therapeutic medicine.

Developed in the 1960's by Chiropractic Doctor George Goodheart. Kinesiology merges western anatomy and physiology with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

The basis of Kinesiology is the Triangle of Health. Each side represents the key aspects of our being: Physical & Structural | Bio-Chemical & Nutritional | Mental & Emotional.

Each side of the triangle of health is recognised as being of equal importance - if one side of the triangle is out of balance or under stress, it will automatically impact the other two sides.

Kinesiology uses ‘muscle testing’ to access unique insights into all areas of an individual's health. A kinesiologist is able to use these insights to complete a journey of balance, aligning the body, mind, and spirit for an optimal life experience.

Guided by a client's individuality, kinesiology tailors its approach to each person's unique needs, restoring harmony within their entire being. By reestablishing balance, a kinesiologist will empower the body to regain its natural healing rhythm, allowing the you to thrive in a state of self-regulation and well-being.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF KINESIOLOGY?

Kinesiology addresses imbalances across all aspects of what it is to be human, including external and internal experiences. It includes physical, mental and emotional health, social issues, career challenges, relationships (with self and others), and so much more.

The scope is wide stretching and numerous - just one reason why being a Kinesiologist is so interesting, fulfilling and rewarding. But some of the most common outcomes achieved across all ages include - but is absolutely not limited to:

o Enhanced learning and cognition o Improved performance o Increased productivity o Reduction of pain o Emotional stress relief o Overcoming fears and phobias o Overcoming past traumas o Enhancing emotional intelligence Interrupting negative patterns and habits o Aid the healing process o Optimal nutritional uptake and balance o Mental clarity and aiding in decision making o Increased self-worth o Improved resilience

WHAT IS A CAREER IN KINESIOLOGY REALLY LIKE?

This would need to be a much bigger guide to list anywhere near all the positive aspects of this rewarding career, but here are some of our favourite things about being a professional Kinesiologist:

o Flexibility (with both time and location) o Being your own boss o Set your own fee structure and earning capacity o Design your schedule to work around your life - work when and where you want (including online) and take holidays when it suits you o Being part of a community who are committed to contributing and who love people o Meeting many, many inspiring and courageous people

CAN A CAREER IN KINESIOLOGY BE FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL?

Absolutely. Passion and commitment in the field of Kinesiology can be both emotionally and financially rewarding. The sky really is the limit when you are your own boss, and have the flexibility to set your fee structure and your working hours.

INTERESTING FACT: As a Kinesiologist you will be working in the health & wellness industry - which has a global value of over US $5,243.3 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach over US $8,945.3 billion by 2032. It’s also interesting to note that the growth in the wellness industry has been twice as fast as the growth in the global economy.

I HAVE NO RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - DO I NEED ANY?

Not at all. We see students with a vast range of experience, age and life stage, enrol to study with us, including:

o Qualifications or experience in other therapies or health roles such as physio, chiropractor, nursing, counselling, psychology, and many more

o Qualifications or experience in other holistic modalities such as Naturopathy, Nutrition, Reiki, Physiotherapy, yoga, massage etc…

o People who have reached a turning point in their current work in a totally different field - from teaching, corporate, coaching, sales, management, operations, plumbing, human resources, marketing and many more jobs and careers

o People who have experienced a life change such as starting a family, or a medical incident, which has set them on a new path, seeking a different career, purpose, flexibility and more

Regardless of previous careers, experience and life stage - what our students all have in common is that whether they are looking to totally change or enhance their current career, they are all looking forward.

HOW DO I KNOW IF A CAREER IN KINESIOLOGY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Our recommendation would be to consider your interests, your values and your beliefs. Here’s some questions you could ask yourself:

1. Are you someone people turn to for advice?

2. Do you trust in the power of the body to support and heal itself?

3. Do you actively value your own and others wellbeing?

4. Do you energise yourself by moving?

5. Do you believe in the mind-body connection?

6. Are you drawn to make a contribution to others?

7. Do you feel you could make a difference to others - if only you knew how to make a living from it?

8. Are you naturally drawn to books, podcasts and posts about mindset, attitude alignment, health and self-empowerment?

9. Do you wish you could do for others what your Kinesiologist - or other health related therapist - has done for you?

10. Do you currently feel you are lacking purpose - and has purpose become more important to you?

If you have answered yes to many of the above, becoming a Kinesiologist could be a great fit for you.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE ICPKP CERTIFICATE OF KINESIOLOGY?

If you choose to study the ICPKP Certificate with us at the Kinesiology Academy, you can study part-time from the end of February 2024 and be an internationally certified and practising Kinesiologist by the end of the year.

This includes completing a mandatory 50 hours of supervised practice experience, ensuring you are not just certified, but confident and competent. Within a year you can be ready to not just begin practising with your own clients, but to be your own boss, and build a successful business.

ONCE I PASS MY CERTIFICATE, CAN I START SEEING MY OWN PATIENTS?

Yes. On successful completion of your certificate classes and assessment criteria (including first aid) you will be eligible to take out the required professional insurance, and once you have that, you are ready to go. As part of your professional qualification we cover all the requirements of what you will need and guide you through the various options for professional insurance.

And because we are accredited to teach an international certification, you are eligible to practise across the world.

Please note: If you choose to study your professional Kinesiology qualifications with another college, you need to ensure the qualification you gain at the end is eligible for the required professional insurance, whether in Australia or another country.

DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE FURTHER PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS?

Once you start practising, it is your choice whether to complete your Diploma. The TNC Kinesiology Academy is also accredited to teach the International Diploma of Kinesiology, so you can stay on with us if you choose a higher professional qualification.

You don’t need the diploma to practise Kinesiology, but you do need to be practising Kinesiologist to earn the diploma - which is why we call it the ‘earn & learn’ diploma model.

Please note: The diploma will be fully tax deductible because you will have already established your kinesiology business. Please contact us if you would like to know more about the International Diploma of Professional Kinesiology Practices (IDPKP.

ICPKP CERTICATE OF KINESIOLOGY COMMITMENT & COST

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT FOR THE ICPKP CERTIFICATE IN KINESIOLOGY?

The professional certificate is taught in 12 modules. Each module is covered in a four-day class, scheduled once a month - the 2024 schedule is available to download below in Course Info & Resources.

Each four-day class runs from a Friday through to Monday and is a combination of group virtual classes and face-to-face time - the amount of each can vary pending the module topic.

For each module you are required to:

1. Attend virtual class

2. Attend face to face class

3. Complete a workbook

4. Pass an online open book test - taken in between classes.

Between classes/modules, you are required to practise techniques and skills - time commitment for this varies. Whilst it is the student’s choice, we recommend extra study time between each module is undertaken to deepen your understanding, practice your new skills and techniques, and embed your learnings.

Student Clinic: Once all 12 modules are completed, all of our students are required to complete 50 hours of student clinic. This is usually done in three two-day blocks - dates are in the schedule.

IS IT EASY TO MANAGE STUDY WITH WORK & FAMILY COMMITMENTS?

We have done all we can to make completion of the professional certificate achievable as part-time study within the year, and the format and scheduling has proved successful. Though this will always be influenced by the ease in which you are able to balance your existing commitments and demands of daily life, alongside your studies. We will offer all possible support.

We have integrated online learning and development as far as we can, however, Kinesiology is a physical modality and we strongly believe it is imperative to have face to face classroom experience to ensure integrity with the qualification and the learning.

Therefore we include a mandatory level of face-to-face learning that you will need to meet throughout the course.

Please note that we will be as flexible as we can to accommodate your study needs and challenges. However, if you are unable to attend modules, it may affect when you complete the course. We will work with you to avoid that, and it will be handled on individual situations.

WHEN IS THE IDEAL TIME TO STUDY PROFESSIONAL KINESIOLOGY QUALIFICATIONS?

Choosing the right time to take on studying alongside an already busy life, is a commitment - unfortunately, nobody can really answer that for you. But from the many conversations we have with interested students, asking yourself the following questions can help understand if now is the right time for you to commit to change:

o Do you often feel you are looking for more out of life and/or your career?

o Do you feel you would like your work to give you more purpose?

o Have you ever thought you’d like to work for yourself?

o Do you believe you were destined for more?

o Do you want something to have changed by this time next year?

If you have answered yes to many of the above, it sounds like now could be the right time.

HOW IS NIDANA KINESIOLOGY ACADEMY DIFFERENT TO OTHER PLACES WHERE I COULD STUDY?

Terese Mudgway and Sarah Gilmour-Mayne established Nidana Kinesiology Academy in 2019. These two passionate and committed Kinesiologists, aimed to elevate Kinesiology in two key ways.

Firstly, through the internationally accredited Kinesiology Academy which both teaches, qualifies and supports students to become professional Kinesiologists - and then further supports graduates through the diploma whilst they are setting up a profitable business.

Secondly, The Nidana Collective aims to share a number of self-care programs and resources for Every Body - ensuring Kinesiology is more widely recognised and understood. An accessible and integrated part of our wellness programme and our self-care routine - a commitment that will help your future business.

Passion and commitment to Kinesiology is at the heart of The Nidana Collective, and that can be seen in the way the Kinesiology Academy has structured the international certification course:

o Our classes are small - approx 10 students per location so that we can focus on each student’s needs.

o We offer face-to-face classes in three locations in Australia - Sydney, Byron Hinterland and Brisbane - supporting students to move between them if/when required.

o We ensure a bespoke experience for students across various learning styles.

o We include bonus workshops that embrace a changing and evolving world, i.e. Working with clients online.

o Our qualifications are internationally recognised.

o The level of support provided by the teachers is second to none, as well as the broader ICPKP community/organisation, including post-graduation.

o All reference materials and resources are in electronic format, on both Apple and Android, and accessible for life, including all material updates.

o A body of practical resources based on 40+ years of clinical practice to set graduates up to build successful businesses.

o Mandatory face-to-face learning & 50 student clinic hours ensure you qualify competent, confident and ready for your own patients and to run your own business

o A ‘learn & earn’ model for students enrolled in Diploma.

o A mentoring program on the back end of our qualifications along with other optional courses to expand the ongoing learning and development of graduates who want to specialise in specific areas.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?

Choosing where to study your professional qualification is an important, personal choice. When looking at options, in addition to location, cost, format etc, we recommend you check the following points:

o That the qualification you will receive is accredited

o the qualification is eligible for the required professional insurance to start practicing

o That the course includes face to face learning and supervised practise

o That the qualification is an international accreditation if there is any chance you may want to practice somewhere other than Australia, or plan to work with clients online in international locations.

o That the college’s philosophies and values are aligned with yours

o Know who will be teaching your classes and what their experience and successes are as practitioners.

o What are the policies if you are unable to attend classes

o What format are classes, assessments, course materials and resources

o What ongoing education and support do they offer following graduation
